Garment Group Update

4/11/2013

Thanks to the great response to the new Garment Group, we have had to
revisit our meeting day in order to get a bigger room at a location that
also has good parking.  Ultimately, we are targeting the second Tuesday of
the month but we had to choose a different date for May based on room
availability.

Location:
Johnson County Central Resource Library (large meeting room)
9875 W. 87th Street
Overland Park, KS 66212

Dates / Topics:

Wednesday, May 1 - Roundtable on Machines (sewing/serger/coverstitch).  Be
prepared to discuss what you have used, pros and cons, what would you buy
again.or not, etc.

Tuesday, June 11 - Roundtable on Notions.  Bring your three (or more!)
favorite notions to share with the group.  Also, if you have a notion that
you aren't sure how to use, bring it for group input.

Tuesday, July 9 - Roundtable on Fabric Resources.  Be prepared to discuss
your favorite resources for fabrics.  We will discuss and compile a list to
share out with the group.

Meeting time will remain from 6:30-8:30pm.

If you would like to be added to our email distro.or if you have any
questions.please send an email to kcasggarmentgroup@gmail.com.

Hope to see you soon!

Spring Events Update

4/8/2013

Hello everyone,
I hope you are enjoying the arrival of Spring and it's glorious weather. I have a few updates about our spring events. As some of you know, the Linda Lee workshop for March had to be rescheduled because of snow issues. The new date is set for May 18th, and there are a few spaces open if anyone would like to sign up. The fee is only $25, which includes lunch and a full day of sewing!

We have had a great response to the Kansas City Ballet tour, so much so, that it is now full. We may have to schedule another tour sometime, since everyone was so excited about it.

We have another great event scheduled this Spring. We will be touring the Garment District Museum on Saturday June 1st at 10am, followed by lunch at the Majestic Steakhouse. Sign up by May 4th for the earlybird fee of $20, after that is $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers.

Southeastern Group Meeting for April

4/7/2013

The Southeastern group meeting for April is on Saturday 20th from 9 am until 2 or so at Fabric Recycles in Lee's Summit to do our community projects. We will bring our fabric to do pajamas, slippers, blankets or such. We also will be doing  the 2 zipper purse for ourselves if we have time.
We are not meeting on the 17th.

Belton Neighborhod Group News

4/1/2013

The Belton neighborhood group would like to announce that there is a change in our schedule. On April 16, we will not be going on the Karem Co. field trip. Instead, we will have a video day at the Cass County Library, 164 Cedar Tree, Belton, MO. This location is directly across the street from Hancock's Fabrics. We will be meeting at our regular time (10:00 till Noon) and the topic of the videos we will be viewing is sergers and serging techniques.

We would also like to announce that the May meeting will be at the home of one of our members. To get directions please call Anita Weaver (816-540-2096). We will also be sharing a potluck lunch. The pattern for the dolls will be available at our April meeting and each member is to fashion and decorate their own doll. It will be fun to see how each of us give our doll a character and personality. The dolls will be given to a local nursing home after our meeting.

The Karem Co. field trip is being planned for later date. Keep watching for details.

New Garment Sewing Group

3/14/2013

Calling all garment sewists!  We are starting a new neighborhood group with a focus on garment sewing.  All levels are encouraged to attend – from beginner to expert.  Our mission is to hear what you want to learn as well as what you are an expert in…match the two up and come up with some great programs!

Join us at our first meeting:
When: Thursday, April 4th, 6:30pm
Where: Updated! Johnson County Library Antioch Branch – Large meeting room
Address:  8700 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Mission, KS 66202

For the first meeting we plan to do a program on seam finishes and then spend time with a survey of what you want and what you can offer…along with some brainstorming on future events.  We will have show and tell at each meeting so bring or wear a garment you’ve recently made.

We’re hoping everyone will share their knowledge with the group, but if presenting a program doesn’t interest you we hope you will join us and hear what others have to share.
We plan to meet on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30pm on an ongoing basis – but are open to feedback.
We hope to see you there!  If you can’t make it and want to be included on future communications, please email us at kcasggarmentgroup<at>gmail<dot>com.
You can also find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/kcasggarmentgroup/

Finally – we aren’t sure how many people to expect….so if you can make it to the first meeting, please drop us a line so we can make sure we have a big enough room!

Discount Taunton Press (Threads Magazine) Orders

11/5/2012

The Taunton Press order (Threads magazine) will be mailed off on Black Friday, November 23, 2012.  If you missed the KC-ASG Annual Meeting and still want to take advantage of the discounts, contact the President via the
Contact Us tab and send your request ASAP.

Taunton Press offers groups a discount (20% off on magazines, 20% off on DVDs and other products, and 30% off books).  Magazine subscriptions and renewals are sent directly to the individual.  Books, DVDs, and other items
are mailed to a single address (usually the education chair or president’s home address) for member pickup.

Checks are to be made payable to ASG, are deposited into the ASG chapter account*, and then the chapter treasurer will write one check for all items ordered directly to Taunton Press.

*Orders are subject to ASG interchapter transfers to meet minimum order requirements (10 magazine
subscriptions and/or 10 product orders).  Be advised there could be a delay in shipment for this reason.

Junior Memberships

10/17/2012

It has come to my attention that there are questions regarding the new ASG junior membership and the qualifications, limitations, and expectations.  If you have any concerns about the new ASG junior membership level and/or the TAG program, I request that you first read the entire article in the latest KC chapter newsletter, Stitch ‘N Times, as well as the article from Ramona Baird, the ASG Education Director, in the current fall issue of Notions magazine on page 2.  If you still have questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge or find out, as chapters nationwide await updated materials and documentation on this great new membership level that ASG National Headquarters has developed for us and our youth.   This topic will also be addressed at the chapter annual meeting, November 10, 2012, at Roeland Park Community Center (see below for post regarding the annual meeting and to download the registration form).
