We managed to keep the snow away on Saturday, November 15, and have a fun time at our Annual Meeting. During the business meeting, the current President (Mary Spence), Secretary (Debbi Scheufler), and Treasurer (Susie Wood), all of whom were unopposed, were re-elected. Then, Betsy Blodgett of Indygo Junction – and our former Education VP – treated us to a trunk show of purses, totes, and other creative items from Indygo Junction Following lunch, several members modeled their creations. It was a great representation of the talent within the Kansas City Chapter of ASG! Some attendees then volunteered to model garments made from Indygo Junction patterns, as well as one or two from Amy Barickman’s new book, The Magic Pattern Book: Sew 6 Patterns into 36 Different Styles!
We also raffled off signed copies of Nancy Zieman’s book, Seams Unlikely, as well as copies of Lynda Maynard’s book, The Dressmaker's Handbook of Couture Sewing Techniques: Essential Step-by-Step Techniques for Professional Results. Your Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) will meet in early December. We expect to be able to finalize (or nearly finalize) our events calendar for 2015 so we can publish it in the Winter edition of the newsletter. Among the events planned for next year, are a presentation from Amy Barickman, a tour of the McCalls Pattern Factory in Manhattan, KS, and a two-day event with Daryl Lancaster (http://www.daryllancaster.com/index.html). Several KC ASG members attended Daryl’s workshops at the ASG Conference in July and were enthralled with her beautiful work. I hope all of you are looking forward to spending time with your fellow sewists at Neighborhood Group Meetings and Chapter events in 2015! Mary Spence
