As I sat down to write the President’s message for this newsletter, I decided to tally up the number of newsletter messages I have written. I think I concluded this is my 18th article. I found it amazing that there have been that many articles written and I am still as excited as ever to talk about my love of sewing, the American Sewing Guild, and the ASG friends I have made! A big thank you is due to the chapter for sending me to the ASG National Conference in Orlando last month. On the first day, the chapter president’s met with members of the national board of directors to share notions for addressing chapter opportunities and challenges. The next three days were spent taking classes from nationally recognized sewing educators, visiting the vendor halls, and exchanging ideas with other ASG members from all over the country. I am looking forward to trying out the things I learned in class and the suggestions from the other chapters. Have you ever heard of a Frocktail Party??? I ended up taking three fitting classes at this year's conference. One from each of three very well-known and respected teachers. You would have thought that at the end of the third day, I would have had the answers to all of my fit questions. Instead, I was more confused than ever! Where one person would explain their theory and say, “Always do it like this….,” the next person would say, “Never do it like that…” Upon reflection, I think I learned the most important thing. When trying to fit different bodies with different fabrics there isn’t just one way. For the best results, you have to take all of the lessons, try them, and see what works for you. July 2018 is the 40th national conference. The venue is the Westgate Las Vegas Resort. Travel to Las Vegas is usually very reasonable and the national board has promised that the 40th will really be something special, so I hope you will consider this in your travel plans for next year. I know many of you are still excited to be with other people like you who love sewing also, so please look over the rest of this newsletter to see what other great events and activities are planned for the rest of the year. I hope to see you there. Sew Sincerely, Robin Comments are closed.
