President's Letter - Summer 2016

8/9/2016

Greetings!

It was a good day! One morning I was driving near a fabric store. I didn’t really need anything but I was close and I was inspired by the Garment Group’s Sew-With-a-Plan Show and Tell. I was looking for a pattern for a top I
wanted to try. I went in and found a seat at the table with four other ladies that were browsing the pattern books. I don’t think any of them knew each other, but one lady mentioned that she was trying to get back into sewing. Each person at the table shared useful hints or ideas to help her with her project. She seemed to listen eagerly to all of the suggestions offered and as she was collecting up the patterns and fabrics she had selected she said, “This has been a good day!” I realized that was exactly how I feel when I get a chance to gather with other ASG members to talk about new patterns, fabrics or techniques. When you find yourselfin similar surroundings I hope you will take the opportunity to invite someone to your neighborhood group meeting or a chapter event to share the energy and inspiration.

There are some other “good days” coming up. As you read through this newsletter, you will find some outstanding events that Karin Kraft-Stuppy has been putting together for us. Don’t miss the details about the tour of the Vintage Garment Museum at the Johnson County Community College this fall. Also, for the Chapter Annual Meeting in November we will have brunch at the Brio restaurant on the Plaza and a presentation from the Make-It-With-Wool organization.

Please read about the Bag Challenge approved by the Chapter Advisory Board. If you don’t care to sew garments or you are looking for a little project to make and embellish, see page 9 for information on the Bag Challenge. Each member will receive a small gift when they send a picture of a bag made from the challenge pattern. For even more fun, you will be entered in a drawing for a one year ASG membership when you display your bag at the Chapter Annual Meeting.

Speaking of “good days,” I am on to my way the ASG national conference in Indianapolis, Indiana where national sewing educators, other chapter presidents and ASG member gather to immerse themselves in every aspect of sewing. I appreciate the opportunity to represent the Kansas City Chapter and I hope to bring back new information and program ideas for the chapter.

I hope you have a good day!
Robin Pruitt
Kansas City ASG President
